Went backpacking at Sabine National Forest recently. It's pretty amazing being out there in the middle of nowhere with nothing around as the sun goes down and your trusty fellow backpackers and tents at your side. And there's nothing quite as amazing as the motorboat on the nearby lake that manages to force its way into the silence.
Also, when walking around at night, the ground was alive with all sorts of insects I've never seen before. Maybe I should've taken pictures.
Okay, so we weren't EXACTLY out in the middle of nowhere. The plan was to hike 20 miles in three days by parking one car at the end and then driving another car to the beginning and hiking to the car at the end. BUT, my car decided to break down on the way (only cost $400 to fix plus 7 hours of my time to go get it). So we didn't get to the forest until it was too late to start backpacking so we did some tent camping. Then, with no car at the end, we found ourselves hiking 5 miles in and then 5 miles out. Still great. But what's next.
One of the guys(Zack) has a badass hammock tent.
